Funerals and Memorial Services

Grief is the last act of love we can give to those we loved. Where there is deep grief, there was great love." --- Anonymous

Funerals and Memorials

The death of a loved member of your family or friend can be devastating. At a time when you may feel lost, grief-stricken or even a sense of despair, we want to give you all the support that we can. At Northern Lights Celebrants, Jo or Sarah will be by your side to help you to plan the most meaningful way to remember your loved one.

Funerals: Usually Sarah or Jo will start the process when they visit you at home, or in a place where you feel comfortable. They will talk to you about your loved one, and about your thoughts and hopes for the ceremony. If its easier for you, they can make suggestions to you for ways that the ceremony can be arranged. They will talk to you about the important events in your loved ones life, your memories and their legacy. They want to help to tell the unique story of your loved one, and will talk to you and others as you suggest.

Jo or Sarah will talk to you about readings and music for the ceremony and will liaise with your funeral director to make sure that everything runs smoothly.

Celebration of Life: If you choose, we can help you to hold a ceremony for yourself of a loved one as a Celebration of Life. They will talk to you about how you want the ceremony to be, and will liaise with you to provide this. They will talk to you about all aspects of your ceremony and will support you to find the right words for the occasion. Whatever readings, music or special words that you would like to be included in the ceremony can be planned to be a part. It is for you or your loved one to choose, with whatever support yu would like from our celebrant.

Interment of Ashes: Another service offered by Northern Lights Celebrants is to help a family with an Interment ceremony. When you are ready for your loved ones ashes to be laid to rest we can help you to plan a ceremony which allows you, along with family and friends to remember all that your loved one stood for, as well as the legacy they leave behind. As with other memorial ceremonies, it is for you and your family or friends to choose what words, music, ritual or readings are included within the ceremony.

Ashes Ceremony: There are increasing numbers of people who may choose to have only the very simplest of cremations, and sometimes this can even be with no family or friends present. What may then help grieving family members or friends, is to hold a ceremony to scatter your loved ones ashes in a special place. Jo or Sarah will talk to you about your loved one, and will try to understand all that they meant to others. In a ceremony planned by you, and which meets the needs of you and other family members, we will support you to provide ways in which your loved one can be celebrated and remembered in the way you would like.

With all these different kinds of memorial ceremony, all wording is prepared individually for your loved one, and is unique to them. All the words which are created by Sarah or Jo, will be shared with you first and can be changed as often as you wish. We want to ensure that we help your loved one to be remembered in the way that you would like, and we will do whatever it takes to ensure that their legacy and love is remembered.

We are very open to any contributions which are made by friends and family, and will support anyone to do this. As with any ceremony we deliver, we want you to feel totally reassured that everything is delivered for you as a family, and in ways which are meaningful to you.

Throughout the process of planning and delivering your funeral or memorial ceremony, Sarah or Jo will be in close contact with you, providing support relating to the ceremony. They will lead the ceremony for your loved one, confidently supporting you and the family, whilst ensuring that the ceremony runs smoothly. Afterwards they will share with you, a beautifully presented copy of the tribute to your loved one, and other readings and words used in the ceremony.

Jo and Sarah are highly experienced delivering to groups of people, and do so with sensitivity and warmth. With their safe hands supporting your memorial or funeral, you can be certain that despite this being one of the hardest times for you and your family, you will be looked after with kindness and love.

“There is a sacredness in tears. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love.”  Washington Irving
